Plowing matches have a long history in Carleton County. They started as friendly rural competitions after the harvest in the early days of settlement. They were both competitive and social in nature providing the opportunity to view the latest developments in plowing technology and other farm machinery as well as to meet not so near neighbours and relatives gathered to enjoy the fruits of their years work.
The book covers plowing matches over the years up to and including the biggest events in the area i.e. the International Plowing Matches of 1932, 1952 and 1983. It is full of memories, names, pictures and places that will have jog happy reflections for many plowmen in the area.
